Road safety and the under 5s

Road safety and the under 5s

It’s National Road Safety Week and all of our Pre-Schoolers will be taking part in various activities throughout the week including a very special visit from a lollipop lady.

Thankfully, there has been a continued reduction in child casualties over the years but there are still children being killed or seriously injured on our roads.

As carers, we encourage children to take part in road safety activities at nursery and teach them how to keep safe when we go out on walks. As parents, it is your responsibility to continue this teaching at home and setting a good example through your own behaviour towards the road.

Using the Department for Transport website www.think.direct.gov.uk we use the following themes to plan our road safety activities:

  • What’s on the road?
  • Keep hold
  • Stop, look and listen
  • Bright is right
