What could you do?
Nursery Assistant
A nursery assistant is expected to support the work of the room leader and help to provide a welcoming, secure and caring environment for all the children in their care.
The role includes the planning, preparation, organisation and monitoring of programmes of work, as well as helping to assess, record and report on the development, progress and achievements of the children in their group.
Ideally, a nursery assistant would hold an NVQ Level 2 childcare qualification, but can be unqualified and willing to learn.
Nursery Nurse
A nursery nurse is responsible for the welfare of children in their own group and across the whole nursery.
Educated to a minimum of NVQ Level 3 in childcare, a nursery nurse should ensure that their qualifications are up to date and should demonstrate commitment towards achieving additional qualifications.
Room Leader
This is a senior role for experienced practitioners who have achieved a minimum NVQ Level 3 in childcare.
In addition to having responsibility for the welfare of children in a group and across the nursery, room leaders work with the nursery manager to ensure that high levels of care are maintained at all times in an environment that is both purposeful and well disciplined.
